Last week we discussed safe facial waxing practices in getting rid of unwanted hair. (If you missed the memo, you can catch up here: Unwanted Facial Hair. This week we get to talk about those little bushes hiding your beautiful eyes, your brows. Waxing can be an intimidating experience, especially if you have never had it done or have heard a horror story or two—tales of crazy adverse reactions or leaving the salon with the better part of an eyebrow missing. Waxing can make a significant difference in the way your makeup is applied; it can highlight and contour your facial features. Long-term, it can help the hair growth come in with a softer texture and minimal density.
Eyebrows are a trend similar to everything else in the beauty world. The current trend is thick, perfectly curated brows to frame the face, leaning towards a feathery effect. (Look here – Kristie Streicher brows.) This look has been seen in past decades and worn in different variations on iconic figures: Joan Crawford in the 40s, Elizabeth Taylor through the 50s and Brooke Shields and Madonna in the 80s.
First, brows are sisters, not twins.
Which shape suits you best? Who is your brow inspiration? Brow shapes are a small detail that provides a big impact. Brow shaping can dramatically improve the overall shape to help complete the look you are going for. There are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, brows are sisters, not twins. There will always be a slight variation between the two. This is normal and should be expected. Next, while shaping can change and improve your brows’ natural shape, it cannot give the perfect look on its own. Most often you need to fill them in with a pencil or powder. Once you have achieved that perfect shape with your waxing service, you can determine if this is a good next step for you. Do you prefer a filled-in look? All natural? Something in-between? There is no right answer! But there is a right way to fill those guys in. Check out how our makeup artist Rebecca recommends you approach filling in your beautiful brows on our Instagram Story!
